Fear of giving birth?

Why are women afraid of giving birth? Maybe because it is not seen as a healthy, normal process! Television and movies nearly always depict labor and birth as scary, extremely painful, unmanageable, with the mom screaming at the top of her lungs! First, her water breaks and splashes in a big puddle on the floor. Then intense contractions start immediately. Next, she is lying on her back, pushing with her face, rather than with her pelvic muscles! It is no wonder that many women are afraid!
